Course Overview
This course is built on a simple shift: moving students from passively receiving science content to actively investigating it. Windschitl, Thompson, and Braaten lay out a set of teaching practices designed to cultivate real scientific thinking — student dialogue, community reasoning, modeling, and evidence-based explanation.
You’ll learn how to structure lessons around equitable engagement and give students genuine avenues for changing their thinking as their understanding deepens. The course also includes special topics and opportunities to integrate what you’re learning directly into your K–6 teaching environment.
About the Authors
This is a graduate-level course intended for K–12 educators who have completed a bachelor’s degree. It is recommended that you receive board or district approval before registering with TPAI.
