Something has shifted for today’s students. Since the early 2010s, rates of anxiety, depression, and loneliness among young people have risen sharply — and teachers are often left to respond without a clear roadmap. This course draws on Jonathan Haidt’s research into the great rewiring of childhood to help educators understand what’s driving the crisis and what they can actually do about it in their classrooms.

This goes beyond awareness. You’ll examine how the replacement of free play, risk, and real-world connection with screen time and social media has reshaped childhood, then build practical strategies for reducing anxiety, fostering genuine connection, and supporting at-risk students. Whether you teach kindergarten or high school, student mental health has become part of the daily reality of teaching. This course helps you respond with greater understanding and confidence.
