Too many students develop a fixed mindset toward math — convinced they’re “not a math person” — and that belief shuts down learning before it starts. Jo Boaler’s research identifies exactly how and why this happens, then lays out a clear path for reversing it. Her approach applies Dweck’s growth mindset research specifically to mathematics, making it practical for elementary classrooms.
You’ll learn how to build a multidimensional math classroom where students ask questions, propose ideas, create representations, reason, and discuss — in a setting where they’re not afraid to fail. The goal is to move students from fearing math to discovering the creativity and real-world meaning that makes it stick.
About the Author
This is a graduate-level course intended for K–12 educators who have completed a bachelor’s degree. It is recommended that you receive board or district approval before registering with TPAI.
