This course takes a different approach to bullying prevention — one rooted in building empathy rather than reacting to incidents. Michele Borba lays out the research on how prevalent bullying is in U.S. schools and makes a compelling case that lasting change comes from culture, not compliance. Her framework isn’t a standalone program but a doctrine designed to work alongside existing prevention efforts.

You’ll work through Borba’s six Rs of bullying prevention — Rules, Recognize, Report, Respond, Refuse, and Replace — and learn how to build a schoolwide culture of empathy that addresses bullying at its roots. The course also includes special topics and opportunities to evaluate response strategies and integrate new approaches into your teaching environment.
